My artwork responds to dominant cultural narratives of the United States, critiquing the oftentimes blurry boundary between history and mythology. These critiques take the form of narrative works in mixed-media sculpture, installation, and drawing. In meta-symbolic spirit, I appropriate widely from sources including found objects, popular culture, political rhetoric, fiction, and my imagination: developing a unique mythology along the way. This work - though political in nature - is not didactic nor completely ambiguous. Rather, it occupies a bizarre aesthetic middle ground in which I believe the most fascinating discourse is found.
As the powers-that-be continue to whittle away at any collective sense of "reality," careful artistic responses are all the more vital to a healthy democracy.
